Levare offers high-throughput screening services of spray-dried formulations for the pharmaceutical industry. With our technology, we turned spray drying into a semi-continuous automatic process that allows us to provide vast polymer, composition, and parameter screenings up to 10 times faster than our competition. This way, pharmaceutical companies can have access to large sets of data in a short period, reducing time to market and highly increasing the chances of launching the best possible formulation.

Poor solubility of drugs, and their associated low dissolution rate in the aqueous gastrointestinal fluids, is one of the most frequent causes of low bioavailability of oral dosage forms and, therefore, one of the biggest challenges of the pharmaceutical industry. A well-known solution to poor drug solubility is drug amorphization by combination with multiple excipients, which can be achieved by spray drying. Our capabilities of producing many different spray-dried formulations in short times enable companies to find the best formulation in a cost-effective manner, giving them a competitive advantage in the market.

In the pipeline, our on-going research is focused on the use of novel drug carriers for improving the therapeutic effects of compounds with poor oral bioavailability. Currently, we’re studying multifunctional carriers obtained from natural sources, that improve the dissolution properties of the active compounds and, at the same time, provide alternative routes of delivery (e.g. via lymphatic route).
